Since our first symposium in 1998, Four Seasons Resort Hualalai has partnered to provide guests with a full weekend of activities and events.

The Four Seasons offers a wide range of accommodations and provides breathtaking views of white-sand beaches and dazzling blue ocean. There’s plenty to see and do right here, like learning about star navigation, the Hawaiian language, hula and more at the Ka‘upulehu Cultural Center below the resort’s Hualalai Grille.

For those who like to explore, the upscale boutiques and restaurants of Kings’ Shops are less than 20 minutes away and the city of Kailua-Kona is a 30-minute drive. The Big Island itself offers an unlimited array of activities, from snorkeling to stargazing through some of the world’s best telescopes, and from hiking to taking in the sights of waterfalls and lava.

The U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory monitors six active volcanoes, four on the Big Island. The Hualalai volcano is considered the third most active on the island, with its most recent eruption in 1801. Mauna Kea, with its peak at 13,796 feet above sea level, is the highest on the island. In winter months, it may have snow at the summit – offering visitors the  possibility of going snow skiing in the morning and ocean surfing in the afternoon. Technically, Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world when measured from its base on the ocean floor to its peak. The world’s largest astronomical observatory is located at the summit.

Nearby Mauna Loa, the largest volcano on Earth, last erupted in 1984. It is part of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, which also includes Kilauea. One of the most active volcanoes in the world, Kilauea is said to be the most visited attraction in Hawai‘i and the most visited volcano in the world.
